Royal Canadian Legion
Norris Branch #227
About the Legion
The Royal Canadian Legion was formed in 1926 with a membership of 50,000. The Legion's commitment to the Remembrance of those who gave their lives for peace and freedom is as valid today as it was then.
Today the Legion is one of the largest community service organizations in Canada with more than 370,000 members and approximately 1,500 branches in Canada, the USA and Europe.
It is a non-profit organization that receives no financial assistance from any outside agency and that is supported by membership dues.
Our major responsibility is to perpetuate "REMEMBRANCE" in Canada through the Annual Poppy Campaign reminding Canadians of the 117,000 men and women who gave their lives in the wars and military missions around the world.
Our mission is to serve Veterans, which include serving military and RCMP members and their families; to promote Remembrance; and to serve our communities and our country.
We are Canada's largest community based service organizations contributing millions of dollars and volunteer hours. We support programs for seniors, community housing, long term care, youth, education, sports, Cadets, Guides and Scouts.
